Braunschweig: Haus der Kulturen Braunschweig e.V. | It was the month of December, 2002. I came to Germany to join my husband. The cold was beyond the words to describe. My bones started to rattle. I was driven to the warmth of our home. Soon the Christmas festivities started. I was overjoyed by the decoration of the christmas market, cakes, many types of breads and so on in my new address. Wow! But as one month passed, I started craving for my own food. Indian food. My german husband had no idea where could I get my spaices! Where could I meet some Indians?

I used to weep in silence thinking about the smells of my food. To utter a few words in my own language. Slowly I started to explore the city of Braunschweig on foot and came to know where should I look for what! And the city became gradually my hometown. But every beginning is very difficult. More so in a foreign land.

Thats why I want to help the South Asians, students or who came to work here, one and all who come to Braunschweig, in their first days to settle down with all possible tipps & Info.

Baithak-khana means leaving room in Hindi, where people meet and chat, exchange information. That is why this project will be called Baithak-khana
